Healthy habits reduce cardiovascular mortality by 40%

  09/04/2020 10:16

"Healthy lifestyle habits reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality by up to 40 percent," concluded Dr. Carlos de Teresa, head of the Functional Medicine Unit of the Hospital Quironsalud Malaga, in an exhibition.

For De Teresa "is important to realize that most of the things that happen to us along the day depends on ourselves, depends on what we do today. We always think that health is something that doctors and hospitals must take care of, but this is as erroneous an approach as thinking that the education of our children only depends on their teachers or schools. Ourselves are the only ones that can manage our own healt",  explained during his intervention organized by Spanish Heart Foundation (FEC) on the occasion of the celebration of Heart Week and World Heart Day.

Prevention

During his speech  he emphasized the importance of prevention to avoid this type of disease, "since it is an essential part. The elimination of risky behaviors for health could prevent up to 80 percent of cardiovascular disease. If you make litle changes in your life and acquire healthy lifestyles -specified-, you will have a longer, healthier and fuller life". And he listed three main pillars for health: an active life, a balanced diet and a sufficiently restful rest. In these three cases there should be a common denominator, which is that we should enjoy when we do it".

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death worldwide. They are also in Spain, being responsible for 29.4 percent of deaths, according to the latest data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE)
